Overview

Autoslew is the ASA software used to control all ASA mounts, plus certain functions of other ASA equipment (e.g. fans on OTAs). The software is proprietary to ASA and Dr Keller and is required to be installed to use ASA mounts.

Autoslew runs only on Microsoft Windows. Current versions of Autoslew will run on Windows 10, Windows 8 (including 8.1) and Windows 7.

Quickstart for new users is here.

Version History

Latest versions

The latest production release of Autoslew is version 5.2.3.1, which can be downloaded here.

The latest beta release of Autoslew is version 5.2.4.0, which beta testers can obtain via the beta test area of the ASA Forum.

Release notes

Release notes describing the releases from version 5.0.0.4 to the current beta test version are provided here.

Functionality

Autoslew provides the following major functions:

[To be completed]

Installation & Configuration

[To be completed.  It is envisaged that this section would provide a step-by-step guide to installing and configuring Autoslew. Probably it will need to link to more detailed pages to avoid becoming too long and also because the procedure may be different for different equipment.]

Operation

[To be completed.  It is envisaged that this section would summarize how each major function is performed (e.g. alignment, balancing, tuning, pointing file creation & use, etc); probably with links to fuller descriptions on separate pages.]

Scripting and ASCOM

Autoslew is ASCOM-compliant and is the means by which ASCOM client programs control ASA mounts.

In addition to standard ASCOM commands, ASA has implemented a number of undocumented commands for specific (usually professional) customers. As these are customer-specific and undocumented their use by other users is at their own risk.  Known examples include:

Activate/deactivate motor

myDDM160 = new Telescope("AstrooptikServer.Telescope");myDDM160.Action("Telescope:MotorOff", "");

myDDM160.Action("Telescope:MotorOn", "");

Update polar axis

double az, al;myDDM160t = new Telescope("AstrooptikServer.Telescope");

myDDM160.Action("Telescope:UpdatePolarAxisAz", az.ToString());myDDM160.Action("Telescope:UpdatePolarAxisAl", al.ToString());

Menus

The function of each of the Autoslew top-level menus is as follows (details are provided here).  Note that certain menu items are inactive (grayed-out) by default; these become active if Expert Mode is selected:

File:  Enables settings to be saved and restored.

Pointing:  Allows the old configuration to be cleared and (in Expert Mode) enables detailed pointing parameters to be adjusted and corrections (e.g. for imperfect polar alignment) to be viewed.

Control:  Enables control-related settings to be configured and also enables Expert Mode to be entered. See here for details.

Mount:  Sets options related to the physical mount (limits, location, parking, time, etc).

Telescope:  Controls the OTA and equipment installed on it (e.g. fans), if installed.

Drive:  Enables the drive servo settings to be configured, sets slew speed and tracking.

Objects:  Enables pre-defined objects to be slewed to and enables the user to build custom object lists.

Tools:  Provides additional tools (e.g. GPS synchronization).

Other

[To be completed.  It is envisaged this will describe other aspects of the user interface (e.g. pop-up dialog boxes).]
